Having problems with your Acrobat .PDF Reader? Try the following tips:

1) For PC: Do NOT click on the link of the Acrobat file. Instead, right click and select "Save Target As...", then save where you want it or to the desktop

2) Files can take some time to download if you are sing dial-up. Make sure they have been completely downloaded before trying to open them.

3) Is your version of Acrobat relatively old? These files were made for Acrobat Reader 7.0 or higher.
If you are having problems and don't have at least Acrobat Reader 7.0, go to the Macromedia site here and download the latest version Acrobat Reader.

4) Do not try to print from the web version. Save the file to the hard drive BEFORE you print. This will be MUCH faster!

5) Problems tend to arise if you try to view the file in the browser and save to the hard drive at the same time. Save to your hard drive before viewing.

What if Dr. Altman announces that a  file has been posted but a student cannot see it?

I always check that a file has successfully been posted and can open, on several computers, immediately after uploading - so it is there and in working order.
If you are still having problems seeing the new posted file, try the following tips:

1) Are you looking in the right place? Is it on the lecture page or the lab page? Check both pages regularly.

2) In some cases, a new file will NOT be the last item in the table on the lecture or lab page.
Sometimes a new link will appear a few spaces up from the bottom of the table - check the whole table carefully.

3) If you have checked that you are on the right page and checked all of the table for the link, hitting the refresh button in Microsoft Explorer for PC and Mac    solves most problems.

4) If this still does not work, try clearing the cache in Mac (OS 10 in this example) by going to Explorer > Preferences > Advanced:

Press the "Empty Now" button under Cache

In Internet Explorer for Windows  go to Tools > Internet Options (General Tab):

Press "Delete Files" - This will delete your cached copy of the page.

5) In some (very, very rare) cases, it can take a few hours for your Internet service provider to update the change.
Check on another computer or with your friends from class.

There are columns on the Lecture and Lab pages.
How do I know which is the right file; is it from the middle or the last column?

Most of the files that you will need to view or download are located in the main column.
In some cases, a "full-screen" version may be available in the last column; these are
slideshows (1 slide per page) of the Notes (2 slides per page).

Otherwise, notations in the last column are usually just descriptive.
Sometimes, additional options may be provided.

Where is the link to sign up for the Bio 211 / Bio 212 mailing list?

Having problems sending an email using the email link?

Clicking on the email links works for most people. However, it opens up the "default email client,"
meaning the program which is set to handle the email on the computer you are on - like Outlook etc.
If you are using a public computer, a Web-based service like Hotmail, an account at work etc., clicking on the email link
may not work. In this case, simply copy and paste or write in the following address:
lga@lawrencegaltman.com
to the To: area when sending an email and it will send like any other email.
